Dimitri Seluk, the agent of Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, says Pep Guardiola was wrong to ignore the experienced Ivorian in their UEFA Champions League exit.

Toure, who has previously won the Champions League during his time with Barcelona, was overlooked for both legs of City’s quarterfinal loss to Liverpool.

“Pep likes to work with young players, but to win in the Champions League you need experience. I think leaving Yaya out of the squad to play Liverpool was a big mistake because City couldn't handle the pressure of playing at that level,” Seluk told the Mirror.

“If Pep doesn't think Yaya is good enough to start the games, then that's his decision and we do not challenge him. But to not even have Yaya as a substitute?

“To have many young players on the bench who were never going to play is something that is hard to understand. Yaya could have used his experience to help the other players. He should have been in the dressing room and on the substitutes' bench to guide them.

“He is still the one player that all the other City players love, respect and look up to because of what he has achieved in the game."
