It has been confirmed that Kenya’s Morris Gachaga will return to South Africa to defend his title at this Sunday’s FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN.

The 23-year-old ran an incredible 33.27 to take victory in the event last year – the fastest ever time in a 12km race.

And the Kenyan is in great form, suggesting he could be just as quick – if not more so – this time around.

Gachaga finished fifth at the RAK Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in February in a time of 59.36 (a personal best for him over the distance), followed by a third place finish in Lisbon where he covered the 21.1km in 60.17 on March 11, before acting as pacemaker to Eliud Kipchoge in his 2018 London Marathon victory.

“I am looking forward to coming back to Cape Town to defend my title,” said Gachaga. “I have good memories of that race and want to do well. I am in great shape. If things go well, maybe I can better my 33:27 and lower the world best.”
