Nigerian international defender Shehu Abdullahi has left his club in Cyprus, Anorthosis Famagusta to join Bursaspor in Turkey.

The Super Eagles defender has joined the Turkish SuperLig giants on a two-and-a-half-year deal after joing in 2016.

He completed his move to Famagusta two years ago from Portuguese club União da Madeira and has thanked his new club for the opportunity.

"I thank Anorthosis Famagusta for an amazing journey and very delighted to be a Bursaspor player," Abdullahi told BBC Sport.

In the final year of his contract in Cyprus, the 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to English championship side Birmingham City, but opted for top-flight football as he eyes a 2018 FIFA World Cup place.

Abdullahi played for Nigeria at the 2013 U20 World Cup in Turkey and contributed in their third-place finish at the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa.

Having made his international debut in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2015, he has won 17 caps and scored once for the Super Eagles.

The new Bursaspor defender represented his country in all eight matches as they sealed their 2018 World Cup qualification, but made headlines when he cost his country three points and a $6,000 fine after it emerged that he was ineligible to play in the final game against Algeria.
